3.4 Environmental Sustainability in Road Infrastructure and Transport

Techical Committee 3.4 "Environmental Sustainability in Road Infrastructure and Transport" identifies traffic operations to minimize the health impact of vehicle emissions, and improvement of pavement design, construction, and maintenance to reduce traffic noise. Also, understanding the road and road transport impact on wildlife habitats and their interconnections is essential for road construction to be implemented in the area affluent with natural environment. Technical Committee carefully considers environmental sustainability, and diligently presents how road organizations commit to restraining air pollution and traffic noise, and the impact on wildlife habitats. (extract from the Strategic Plan)

Techical Committee 3.4 "Environmental Sustainability in Road Infrastructure and Transport" Chair

With more than 17 years of experience in the fields of natural risk management and climate change adaptation strategies, Eric Dimnet (France), Project Director at IFSTTAR, is very involved in the Association. He was a member of PIARC technical committee "Management of Road Operation Risks" during the 2008-2011 cycle and French-speaking secretary of the committee "Adaptation Strategies/Resilience" during the 2016-2019 cycle. Eric has been appointed Chair of the committee "Environmental Sustainability in Road Infrastructure and Transport" for the 2020-2023 cycle.

Interviewed during the meetings to launch this cycle in January 2020 in Marne-la-Vallée (France), Eric explains the objectives of the 3.4 committee "Environmental Sustainability in Road Infrastructure and Transport".
