International Workshop "Resilience Process for Disaster"

The International Workshop on Resilience Process for Disaster was held at Hotel Plaza San Francisco, Santiago, Chile, on 15th June, 2018. This workshop was jointly organized by PIARC (World Road Association) Technical Committee E.3 "Disaster Management", Ministry of Public Works of Chile, and Chilean Association of Roads and Transportation.

Summary of the Workshop

The aim of the workshop was to exchange and disseminate the latest, national and international management technology for improving resilience process for disaster. In order to achieve this goal, national and international expertise on disaster management from public authorities, private companies and academic sectors met together at Santiago.

The full one-day workshop consisted of three technical sessions and panel discussion with 67 participants including experts from governments, highway companies and the private sectors both from Chile and abroad.

During the workshop, several topics related to several aspect of disaster management were discussed including international experiences on the subject with presentations from Australia, Chile, Czech, Japan, and USA. The workshop was honored in the three technical sessions, "Information Management", "Facing Emergencies", and "Lesson Learned from Disaster Management". The workshop also held panel discussion with Chilean and international expertise.

The local participants were mainly from the district road engineers who are in charge of disaster management in their districts. There were a lot of hot and practical questions from the audience. Among the wide variety discussion generated during the workshop, most of the discussion was payed to the importance of information management during response phase in disaster management process and tsunamicountermeasures in each country. This reflected the experience of the 2010 Chile earthquake and tsunami. The measures using current information communication technologies and disaster education are also a major concern among the all participants.
