PIARC, together with University College London and the University of Birmingham, is working to build the first international picture of how road organisations use digital twins and digital representations of their assets, networks and operations, and we want to hear from you.

We are looking for real examples at any stage, whether fully operational, piloted, planned or paused. You do not need to call your work a “digital twin” to take part. Road and asset management systems, condition monitoring and BIM based approaches are all of interest, and examples from organisations at an early stage are also very welcome.

Contributors are acknowledged in the study and will receive the findings ahead of publication.

This call for evidence follows PIARC's Special Project "Digital Twins Global Progress: Real-World Practices and Outcomes in the Road and Mobility Sector", launched to document real-world practices, analyse successful and unsuccessful case studies, and identify practical ways forward for implementing Digital Twins across the sector, from data integration and interoperability between BIM, GIS and IoT systems, to investment justification and cybersecurity. 

The findings will help road administrations, including those in low- and middle-income countries, to plan, justify and progressively deploy Digital Twin solutions.
