PIARC Road Academy expands its programme with a new session on Vulnerable Road Users theme and a webinar on innovative approaches to road asset management

PIARC Road Academy continues to expand its training programme with two upcoming activities for road professionals. On 15 September, the fourth session of the Work Zone Safety and Management course will focus on protecting vulnerable road users, while on 24 September, a webinar will explore innovative approaches to data collection, processing and analysis for road asset management.

Work Zone Safety and Management: Protecting Vulnerable Road Users

Registration is still open for the fourth session of the PIARC Road Academy's "Work Zone Safety and Management" training course, focused on the theme of Vulnerable Road Users. The session begins 15 September 2026.

This interactive 90-minute session will explore how work zones can be planned, designed and managed to better protect pedestrians, cyclists and other vulnerable road users, an area that PIARC research identifies as a persistent global blind spot.

Why attend?

Designed for road authorities, engineers, designers, contractors and project managers, the session will provide practical design parameters, low-cost segregation and signage measures, and internationally recognised good practices to help make the protection of vulnerable road users a first-order design requirement rather than an afterthought.

What will you learn?

By attending this session, participants will be able to:

  • Recognise the scale and nature of VRU risks at worksites globally
  • Apply practical design parameters to maintain pedestrian and cyclist continuity
  • Evaluate low-cost, locally adaptable VRU protection measures
  • Integrate VRU considerations as a core design requirement, rather than an add-on

Webinar: Innovative Approaches to Road Asset Management Data Collection and Analysis

The PIARC Road Academy will also host a webinar organised by PIARC Technical Committee 3.3, focusing on innovative approaches to data collection, processing and analysis for road asset management.

Taking place on 24 September 2026, from 3:00 pm to 4:15 pm (Paris time), the webinar will examine innovative approaches that can support more effective road asset management and provide insights into the use of data throughout the asset management process.
