Share your experience on Safe System developments worldwide! The survey is open until 15 September 2026.

The PIARC Technical Committee 3.1 “Road Safety”, through Working Group 3.1.2, is conducting an international survey on the development of the Safe System approach in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).

The Safe System approach is increasingly recognised as an effective framework for improving road safety. Identifying the barriers to its adoption and effective implementation in LMICs is an important step towards developing practical, evidence-based solutions adapted to the specific challenges faced by these countries.

The survey will focus on the following key areas:

  • Knowledge management and infrastructure;
  • Road and road network design characteristics and guidelines;
  • Vehicle and transport system characteristics and guidelines;
  • Road user behaviour;
  • Post-crash care.

The findings from this survey will support PIARC’s initiatives to facilitate the implementation of the Safe System approach and contribute to sustainable improvements in road safety in low- and middle-income countries.

Who is invited to participate?

PIARC invites road safety professionals, representatives of road authorities, international organisations, universities and research institutes working in or with low- and middle-income countries to take part in this survey.

By sharing your experience, you will help identify current challenges, highlight good practices and support the development of practical recommendations for implementing the Safe System approach.

The questionnaire takes approximately 15 minutes to complete, and all responses will be treated anonymously.

We encourage you to submit your contribution by 15 September 2026, at the latest.
