Improvement of Road Network Resilience: Strategies for Cost-Effective Climate Change Adaptation and Sustainable Development

PIARC Technical Committee 1.4 "Planning for Resilience in Road Networks - Climate Change and Other Hazards", with the participation of the World Bank, the Ministry of Transport and Logistics, the Public Works Administration, and the Mozambique Road Fund, is pleased to announce the international seminar on improving road network resilience, scheduled for November 12-14, 2025 in Maputo, Mozambique.
PIARC Technical Committee 1.4 “Resilience Planning for Road Networks - Climate Change and Other Hazards” focuses on the strategic, tactical, and applied aspects of planning to enhance resilience. It covers methodologies and approaches that enable more resilient network planning and road infrastructure design that reduces risks, is better prepared, more robust, and capable of responding to and recovering from other hazardous events.
As part of a joint collaboration, PIARC Technical Committee 1.4, the World Bank, the Ministry of Transport and Logistics of Mozambique, the National Roads Administration and the Mozambique Road Fund invite you to participate in an upcoming international seminar on improving the resilience of road networks.
The main objectives of the seminar will be to:
- Share knowledge and experiences with the aim of making road networks more resilient to climate change
With a focus on climate change and sustainable development, the seminar will feature discussions on the benefits of investing in resilience, such as :
- improved safety
- reduced risks of traffic disruption and economic losses
- long-term cost savings
- enhanced environmental sustainability
- strengthened mobility and connectivity
- better preparation for the effects of climate change
- Professionals in the road sector (road administrations/agencies and public services, project managers, public works institutions, design and consulting firms, road laboratories, etc.);
- PIARC expert members;
- Development partners and other entities involved in road infrastructure financing;
- Experts in climate change and weather hazards;
- Suppliers of materials for road construction and maintenance;
- Academics and researchers;
- Engineering students;
- And all interested parties.
