The call for abstracts for the "9th Symposium on Pavement Surface Characteristics", SURF 2022, is open. The deadline has been extended till February 21, 2022.

Pavement Surface Characteristics is now open!

The internationally renowned symposium on pavement surface characteristics comes back for its 9th edition in Milano, Italy, from September 12-14, 2022. The event is hosted by the Politecnico di Milano, co-hosted by Anas and co-organised by PIARC and its Technical Committees 4.1 Pavements and 3.3 Asset Management.

The Symposium is organised by PIARC every 4 years. The previous edition was held in Brisbane, Australia, from 2-4 May 2018. The event attracted 150 delegates from 20 countries and included five key presentation themes, covered by the almost 40 session presentations and peer-reviewed papers.

The themes of the upcoming symposium are as follows:

  • Data monitoring and performance assessment
  • Innovation in asset management to meet next generation mobility needs
  • Economic and political strategies
  • Life-cycle cost analysis and assessment
  • Safety and risk issues
  • Sustainability issues (noise, vibration, pollution, fuel consumption, etc.)
  • Surface layer design
  • Maintenance and preservation treatments
  • Materials and design

Guidelines for the abstracts

The abstract should summarize the contents of the paper in short terms, 250-350 words, and in English. Any person wishing to submit their abstract can do so on the official website of SURF 2022. The Abstract Acceptance Decision will be taken by March 10, 2022.
