Vehicle Size and Weight Limits - Experiences and Trends

The objective of this report is to present an overview of problems concerning vehicle weight and dimensions monitoring and enforcement, such as National and international regulation for vehicle weight and dimensions and need of harmonization; the Directive 96/53 as a legal basis of the harmonization within the EU and others European Countries; monitoring and control systems of freight vehicle traffic, methods and equipments; heavy vehicles aggressiveness on road pavement; weigh in motion system as an efficient tool to evaluate the traffic aggressiveness; enforcement and penalties, legal basis and methods. The basic information has been obtained from national and international documentation and from the answers of a survey. The report draws synthesis conclusions.
