PIARC (World Road Association), founded in 1909 and comprising 125 member governments from all over the world, is the global forum for exchange of knowledge and experience on roads, road transport policies and practices. With consultative status to the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations, the Association is contributing to a stable and sustainable global development of the road and transport sector.

Agenda 21

  • Definition : Collection of non-binding recommendations for actions for the 21st century in the fields of sustainable development, the eradication of poverty and exclusion, production and consumption, sustainable agriculture, governance and decision-making, and environmental protection, which began as a declaration in Rio de Janeiro in 1992. Note: Agenda 21 also proposes to introduce sustainable development indicators and implement local Agendas 21.
