systemic approach

  • Definition : Approach which applies to complex, interacting systems, generally when it is impossible to define objectives from the goals, and when incomplete, continually evolving data are not consistent with a scientific approach, or an iterative method, or any logical process. Notes: 1. This kind of method is used to develop a multimodal transportation system. 2. Scenario methods, with external reactions which will modify the system and lead either to a new equilibrium, or to an uncontrollable racing of the system, are also systemic methods, applied to social and environmental problems.
