Marshall test

- Definition : Standardized laboratory procedure to determine the resistance to viscous deformation and to failure of a hot asphalt mixture. Note: it is used for designing and testing mixtures, and consists of compacting cylindrical specimens dynamically in a steel mould at a given temperature and then subjecting them to a compression test in a special press at a given temperature. The parameters generally used to characterize the mixture are Marshall flow, stability and voids.
