XIVth International Winter Road Congress Proceedings - Andorra 2014

Andorra la Vella, February 4-7, 2014

The XIVth World Winter Service and Road Resilience Congress was heldin the capital of Andorra, Andorra la Vella, from February 4-7, 2014, under the theme "Reconciling road safety and sustainable development in a context of climate change and economic crisis”.

The congress was opened on Tuesday 4 February by the head of the government of Andorra, Antoni Marti Petit, the Mayor of Andorra, Rosa Ferrer, and the president of PIARC, Oscar de Buen, while the Minister of Economy and Territories, Jordi Alcobé, inaugurated the 4500 square meters of the exhibition.

Proceedings of Andorra 2014 Congress available online!

The Final Proceedings DVD of the XIVth international Winter Road Congress is available as a dedicated website at the following address: https://proceedings-andorra2014.piarc.org/

Great success for the XIVth International Winter Road Congress, in the Principality of Andorra, with more than 1,500 participants at the Congress and 3,000 visitors to the exhibition, from 48 countries.

This marked the beginning of four days of an intense program filled with professional development, cultural experiences and networking.

180 oral presentations and interactive poster sessions, 6 technical visits, 64 exhibitors representing institutions and 100 brands, demonstration of snow removal equipment, provided the latest information on current approaches, de-icing products, equipment and field experience from over 40 countries in road winter operations.

The skills of drivers of snowplough was recognized with the second International Snowplough Competition with participation from about 10 countries.

At the closing ceremony, the Polish Road Administration and the Mayor of Gda?sk, invited the participants to Gda?sk, the host of the XVth International Winter Road Congress in 2018.

A resounding success for the country and the entire Pyrenees region

The Technical Committees 2.4 "Winter Maintenance", 3.3 "Road Tunnel Operations" and 4.3 "Road Bridges", evaluated the abstracts and then the full papers, structured and moderated the technical sessions of the Congress. A total of 150 oral papers and 177 poster presentations from 33 countries illustrated the Congress' problematic, subdivided into eight themes.

The Congress Centre of Andorra la Vella occupies an area of 4,200 m² arranged in various facilities: an auditorium, five function rooms, a meeting room, a multiuse room, offices, a press room, a covered exhibition area and an outside exhibition area. A 1,200 parking places completes the Congress Centre.
