Editorial - Newsletter April 2025

Patrick Malléjacq
PIARC Secretary General
As this newsletter shows once again, PIARC has a very busy schedule of events. We organize seminars in low- and middle-income countries, workshops in wealthier countries, internal meetings of our Technical Committees, conferences, and, of course, Congresses. Our next Congress, the 17th World Winter Service and Road Resilience Congress, will be held from March 10 to 13, 2026. Registration will open soon, and delegates traveling to Chambéry, France, will be able to see by themselves how global this event is in terms of its themes, which are relevant to all countries regardless of their specific conditions. All these events allow experts and practitioners to share their solutions and challenges, and also to identify areas for progress together. They are essential to achieving our goal of being the leader in road knowledge exchange.
But that's not all! These meetings, conferences, and moments of sharing only last a few days, but they result in knowledge that is essential to preserve. At PIARC, we are very committed to making the most of these meetings, in the form of technical reports or conference proceedings. These documents are one of our Association's greatest assets. Of course, it takes a lot of work to turn a three-day meeting into a report of recommendations or a collection of case studies. The data must be compiled, standardized to some extent, analyzed, and then collectively debated. To do this, PIARC is fortunate to be able to rely on a network of more than 1,800 international experts, volunteers, and volunteers who carry out this painstaking work. They are truly the driving force behind our association. Thanks to them, hundreds of technical reports covering all topics related to roads and road transport can be found instantly on our website without having to attend any events.
In order to make all this in-depth knowledge more accessible, we are launching PIARC theme weeks, which aim to address all aspects of a single topic in a dynamic and holistic way. Join us for the first one, "PIARC Decarbonization Week," from May 5 to 11! On the agenda: technical reports, podcasts, conferences, and more…
