PIARC at the Consortium meeting of SuM4All and the World Bank’s Conference Transforming Transportation

15-17 January 2020, Washington D.C. (USA)

From 15 to 17 January 2020, PIARC took part in two significant events in Washington: the annual conference co-hosted by the World Bank and WRI (World Resources Institute) Ross Center for Sustainable Cities and in SuM4All’s 8th Consortium Meeting.

Transforming Transportation is the annual conference co-hosted by the World Bank and WRI Ross Center for Sustainable Cities. The theme for Transforming Transportation 2020 was “Connecting People for Sustainable Growth”. The conference gathered policy-makers and stakeholders from both developed and developing economies to broad discussions on a variety of issues related to Sustainable Transport. Oscar de Buen, PIARC Past President and Member of the Executive Committee, took part in a panel on Adaptation and Resilience, which is one of the horizontal themes in PIARC Strategic Plan 2020-2023.

Besides, PIARC participated, via the Technical Advisor for Partnerships, Anna-Karin Salmi, in SuM4All’s 8th Consortium Meeting on 15 January. The discussions centred around the Global Roadmap of Action Toward Sustainable Mobility (GRA) and what measures can be taken to implement the identified policy actions to attain the Sustainable Development Goals and achieve sustainable mobility. In 2020, the Consortium has launched five workstreams to address the content of the GRA, PIARC will follow and contribute as appropriate by transferring the results and knowledge from our Technical Committees, Task Forces and Special Projects into these workstreams. PIARC member country South Africa will be the first country to trial the GRA.
