The 29th Baltic Road Conference was held in Tallinn on 28-30 September under the Estonian presidency of the Baltic Road Association, a regional partner in the World Road Association (PIARC) which gathers Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia.

Over 600 participants and 90 exhibitors from the Baltic countries and Scandinavia as well as a number of other countries attended the conference in the Estonian capital. In his opening remarks, the Estonian Prime Minister, Jüri Ratas, placed great emphasis on the importance of the Baltic region in terms of expanding "digital connectivity" in the road sector, which is a point of view shared by the director general of the EU Department for Mobility and Transport (DG MOVE), Henrik Hololei (a fellow Estonian), who participated via video conferencing. Claude van Rooten, President of the World Road Association and speaking after Mr. Ratas and Mr. Hololei, focused on the "long-standing links between PIARC and the Baltic states, which date back to the 1920s" as well as their "constant active commitment in the association following their regained independence in 1991".

Mr Van Rooten likewise invited participants to the 15th International Winter Road Congress to be held in Gda?sk (Poland) in February 2018, where the Polish organiser and PIARC will have a joint stand at the centre of the exhibition.
