Are you interested in Connected or Automated Vehicles? These webinar and survey on Smart Roads Classification are for you!
4 June 2021
A webinar and a survey are organised to continue the research on PIARC’s Special Project on Smart Roads Classification.
The survey is available in English, French and Spanish and should be answered by 22 June 2021.
The accompanying webinar will be held in English on 15 June at 2 PM (Paris Time). Learn more and sign up!
Given that the presence of Connected and Automated Vehicles (CAVs) is on the increase, it is necessary to explore the feasibility of a new Smart Roads Classification (SRC) system that provides information to users and vehicles on their degree of adaptation to automated driving. This information should range from indicating which road sections do not allow any type of automated driving, to sections that are ready for any automated system, going through various intermediate degrees depending on the technology. A draft SCR has already been developed, as a trial.
The objectives of this questionnaire and of this webinar are to collect feedback from all worldwide stakeholders on:
- How do you approach the concept of Smart Roads Classification? What are the challenges and opportunities that you identify?
- How do you rate the criteria and principles that were used to develop this draft SRC system? Do you agree with them?
Your feedback will help us propose a more relevant classification system which would be adapted to different conditions and needs, and to identify challenges and opportunities for road operators and administrations.
Are you interested in Connected or Automated Vehicles?
The time required to complete this questionnaire is estimated at 30-45 minutes, without including the reading and analysis of the draft proposal for SRC - Executive summary (15 min approx.).
Response to all questions is not mandatory, but it would be appreciated if you could answer, at least, sections 1 and 2.
Deadline: 22 June 2021
Webinar on 15 June 2021
Discussions held during this seminar will help us propose a more relevant classification system which would be adapted to different conditions and needs, and to identify challenges and opportunities for road operators and administrations.
It will be held in English and is free and open to all. Registration is mandatory.
PIARC Special projects
PIARC outsources the development of its Special Projects, high-level studies in response to critical issues, to provide useful information to member countries in a short period of time. These issues are not within the scope and capacities undertaken by Technical Committees and Task Forces. For the 2020-2023 work cycle, four special projects have been planned so far: Overweight vehicles impacts on road infrastructure and safety (2020), Road Related Data and how to use it (2020), and the upcoming Oversize Strikes (2021) and Smart Roads Classification (2021).
