  • Definition : Mogelijkheid dat iets zich voordoet. Toelichtingen: 1. In risicobeheer wordt de term gebruikt om de mogelijkheid aan te geven dat iets zich voordoet, of die mogelijkheid nu objectief of subjectief, kwalitatief of kwantitatief wordt gedefinieerd, gemeten of bepaald, en of zij nu in algemene bewoordingen of in wiskundige termen (zoals een waarschijnlijkheid of een frequentie over een gegeven periode) wordt beschreven. 2. De Engelse term ''likelihood'' heeft in een aantal talen geen direct equivalent; vaak wordt dan het equivalent van ''probability'' als vertaling gebruikt. De term ''probability'' wordt echter vaak in strikt wiskundige zin opgevat [ISO Guide 73/PIARC].
