public participation

  • Language : PIARC Road Dictionary / English
  • Theme : Operations Transport Sustainable Transport
  • Definition : Act of associating members of the public as stakeholders in a process. Note: eight core methods can be differentiated, ranging from the least participatory to the most participatory: information, consultation, concerting, dialogue, involvement, participation, appropriation or ownership, and agreement. The first three used alone do not result in real public participation; the last three give rise to a real integrated participatory process.
