  • Definition : Open hydraulische constructie met een voorgeschreven doorsnede en langshelling, die aan de buitenzijde langs een buitenberm wordt gegraven om oppervlaktewater te verzamelen [Egis/PIARC]. CROW, Nomenclatuur van weg en verkeer (2001): - sloot = watergang voor de waterbeheersing van percelen, die daartoe in verbinding staat met andere watergangen; - greppel = gegraven open afvoer voor de afwatering of ontwatering van het omringende gebied, die afwatert op een sloot of een natuurlijke watergang en meestal droog staat. Toelichting: het begrip "sloot" heeft in België een afwijkende betekenis: onderdeel van de weg- of steunberm, gevormd door een open sleuf die bestemd is om water op te vangen en af te voeren.
