PIARC (World Road Association), founded in 1909 and comprising 125 member governments from all over the world, is the global forum for exchange of knowledge and experience on roads, road transport policies and practices. 2.1 Mobility in Urban Areas

Cities deliver a lot of services (jobs, education, culture, hospitals, …) not only for citizens, but also for rural communities around the cities. Technical Committee 2.1 "Mobility in Urban Areas" focuses on inhabitant’s mobility needs in the commuting areas in order to make sure that all transportation needs in relation with the services delivered by cities will be taken into consideration. It will take into account the complexity of urban areas (integration with land planning, multimodality, public support, new mobility modes). (extract from the Strategic Plan)

Technical Committee 2.1 "Mobility in Urban Areas" Chair

With more than 25 years of expertise in the field of transport, Andrea Simone (Italy), professor-researcher, is very involved in the Association. He was a member of the PIARC Technical Committee "Improving Mobility in Urban Areas" during the 2012-2015 cycle and of the committee "Sustainable Multimodality in Cities" during the 2016-2019 cycle. Andrea has been appointed Chair of the Urban Mobility Committee for the 2020-2023 cycle.

Interviewed during the meetings to launch this cycle in January 2020 in Marne-la-Vallée (France), Andrea explains the objectives of the committee 2.1 "Mobility in the urban environment".
