Road Network Operations Manual and ITS

Technical Committee 2.1 Road Network Operations chaired by Jacques Ehrlich (France) has been assigned, among others, the project to revamp the electronic version of the Road Network Operations Manual and the Manual on Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS).

The project is carried out in cooperation with the Intelligent Transportation Society of America (ITS America) thanks to financial support from the US Department of Transportation (US DOT). At the request of ITS Joint Program Office (US DOT), ITS America is in charge of developing the ITS contents of the web-based electronic manual.

The Road Network Operations Manual aims to provide a reference and learning tool to assist decision making in ITS investments, with particular attention to developing countries and countries in transition. The Manual will include a set of modules that are updated with basic information on key ITS subjects with an international perspective. That section of the Manual should be completed in 2014.

For this task, ITS America has appointed John Miles (United Kingdom) as technical chief editor. John Miles was member of the PIARC Technical Committee on Road Network Operations starting in 1996. He was chairman of the Committee from 2004 to 2007, and co-author of the first edition of the PIARC ITS Manual published in 1990 and main editor of the second edition published in 2004.

The section of the Manual dealing with road network operations will be developed by Technical Committee 2.1.
