International Seminar "Resilient Roads and Climate Change Adaptation" to gather international experts in Beijing

Beijing (China), 19 - 16 October 2018

International Seminar "Resilient Roads and Climate Change Adaptation" will bring together international experts in Beijing

From October 16th - 19th, 2018, the International Seminar "Resilient Roads and Climate Change Adaptation" organized by the World Road Association (PIARC), the National Center for Materials Service Safety of the University of Science and Technology Beijing (USTB), the Beijing University of Technology, the Tongji University and the China Academy of Transportation Sciences, will be held in Beijing.

Organized jointly by PIARC Technical Committee E.1 (Adaptation Strategies/Resiliency), it will gather experts and researchers from different countries to share knowledge and expertise, exchange ideas and experiences and, explore a wide range of issues to address the many challenges posed by climate change.

Indeed, climate change can have a direct impact on the performance of transport infrastructure. It involves, from one side, raising awareness in the road sector regarding impacts of climate change on pavements and road infrastructure and, on the other hand, taking adaptation measures to manage the impacts of it (variations in temperature, precipitation, and other effects) on the operation and performance of road infrastructure.

The seminar program will cover the impact of climate change on road infrastructure, traffic operations, and countermeasures, the resilience of the road system (technology assessment and improvement), the climate change adaptation framework for road infrastructure and case studies (non-exhaustive list).
