PIARC is launching the PIARC Road Academy, a new initiative aimed at turning its technical expertise into practical training for road professionals worldwide.
Its first pilot program focuses on road work zone management and safety. It will run from June to November 2026 through interactive online sessions led by international experts. Based on PIARC technical work and best practices, the training offers practical approaches to improving the safety and operation of work zones.

PIARC has officially launched the Call for Papers for the XXVIII World Road Congress, which will take place in Vancouver, Canada, from 4 to 8 October 2027.
Professionals from around the world are invited to submit an abstract on one of the Congress’s 57 topics, covering areas such as sustainability, resilience, digitalization, road safety, and mobility. Abstracts may be submitted in English, French, or Spanish until 31 August 2026.
All accepted papers will be eligible for the PIARC 2027 Awards, which recognize excellence and innovation across 10 categories within the international road community. >> Submit your abstract and learn more here

The month of April was marked by several important initiatives as part of the 60th Congress of the Association québécoise des transports (AQTr), which took place from April 27 to 29.
An expert panel on work zone management brought together industry specialists under the leadership of Mr. Martin Thibault, Chair of the PIARC Quebec National Committee. A PIARC Quebec scholarship, sponsored by STANTEC, was also awarded to a student for a thesis on the decarbonization of road infrastructure.
Also as part of the congress, the progress of the Strategic Theme 3 "Safety and Sustainability" work was presented.

The 17th ITS European Congress in Istanbul brought together key industry stakeholders to discuss the future of intelligent transport systems and digital mobility.
As part of the Portugal Pavilion, CRP contributed to a strategic session focused on the future challenges of mobility. Emanuela Stocchi co-authored a presentation highlighting the potential of digitalization and artificial intelligence to improve road safety, strengthen transport resilience, and support sustainability goals.
The presentation emphasized the key role of digital technologies in advancing Vision Zero and developing safer, more sustainable road networks. >> More information available here

Registration Opening Soon for SURF 2026
The 10th SURF Symposium on Road Surface Characteristics will be held from November 9 to 11, 2026, in Tokyo, Japan.
This international event will bring together the pavement community to exchange insights on the latest innovations and challenges in the sector, including data-driven monitoring, artificial intelligence, sustainable materials, and road safety.
The program will include technical sessions, workshops, and panel discussions led by international experts. Registration will open soon.

PIARC UK Technical Committee 2.5 in Bristol: advancing connected and automated mobility
PIARC Technical Committee 2.5 will convene in Bristol from 8–11 June 2026 to advance technical understanding of connected and automated mobility.
Sessions will examine data architectures, digital traffic regulation orders, connected vehicle services, and integrated transport data systems, alongside working group reviews and literature analysis.
The programme will emphasise ethical data use, interoperability challenges, and deployment insights in practice today.

The 6th International Seminar on Earthworks in Europe (ISEE6) will be held in Paris, France, from June 1 to 3, 2027.
It will bring together international experts and infrastructure stakeholders to discuss key issues in the sector, including European standards, innovation, climate resilience, sustainability, and circular economy approaches.
