PIARC Road Academy 

PIARC has launched the PIARC Road Academy, an initiative aimed at transforming its technical expertise into practical training for road professionals.

The Academy will begin with a pilot program on road construction site safety and management, featuring online sessions from June to November 2026 that will bring together international experts and practitioners.

The program is designed for participants from all regions, with sessions tailored to different time zones and available in multiple languages.

3rd PIARC International Conference on Road Tunnel Operations and Safety 

The 3rd PIARC International Conference on Road Tunnel Operations and Road Safety will bring together international experts to address issues related to tunnel safety, operations, and management.

Registration is now open, and the provisional program is available, along with opportunities to participate through sponsorship and knowledge-sharing.

The second newsletter, recently published, provides additional information on key themes and practical aspects.

3rd PIARC Conference on Tunnels and Road Safety – Sept. 30–Oct. 2, 2026 – Kraków (Poland)

Registration for SURF Opens Soon

The 10th SURF 2026 Symposium on Pavement Surface Characteristics will be held from November 9 to 11, 2026, in Tokyo, Japan. It will bring together the global pavement community to discuss the latest innovations and challenges, including data-driven monitoring, AI, sustainable materials, and road safety.

The program includes technical sessions, workshops, roundtables, and an exhibition, featuring international experts and stakeholders.

Registration will open soon. A major international event for pavement specialists.

Call for Abstracts: PIARC World Bridge Conference “Managing Bridges for Society is open” 

The PIARC World Conference on Bridges will bring together the international community to advance bridge engineering and management. 

Held in Marrakech, Morocco, the conference will bring together experts, researchers, and practitioners to discuss innovation, resilience, and key challenges facing the sector, including digital transformation and risk management.

The call for papers is open until June 1st, 2026. Industry professionals are encouraged to share their expertise and contribute to this global exchange.

17th Romanian National Congress on Roads and Bridges 

The 17th Romanian National Congress on Roads and Bridges will be held from September 23 to 25, 2026, in Brașov, bringing together key players in the sector.

Held every four years, the congress promotes the sharing of expertise and innovations among engineers, researchers, and professionals in the areas of infrastructure management, safety, and the sustainability of road networks.

The event will feature technical sessions, an exhibition, and opportunities for networking and showcasing innovations.

17th Romanian National Congress on Roads and Bridges – September 23–25, 2026 – Brașov (Romania)

Road and Transportation Research Association (FGSV) - German Road and Transportation Congress 2026 

The German Road and Transportation Congress 2026 will take place from October 14 to 16 in Wiesbaden and will bring together experts to explore the future of mobility and road infrastructure.

Discussions will focus on key issues such as sustainability, climate resilience, infrastructure management, and digitalization, with an emphasis on innovation and emerging technologies like AI.

From Vision Zero to the challenges of local road management, the event will offer a comprehensive overview of the sector’s challenges, with an emphasis on knowledge sharing, particularly for young professionals.

German Road and Transport Congress (FGSV) – October 14–16, 2026 – Wiesbaden (Germany)

United Kingdom Hosts PIARC Global Dialogue in 2026

In 2026, the United Kingdom will host four meetings of IPARC Technical Committees, reaffirming its central role in global transportation innovation and policy. 

Highlights include a Technical Committee 1.1 workshop in May on public value, skills, and AI, featuring a tribute to Jonathan Spear, as well as a Technical Committee 2.5 meeting in June on emerging technologies for road infrastructure.

In October, an international gathering on the sidelines of Highways UK will bring together the PIARC President and several Technical Committees.

The year will also honor the UK winners of the PIARC competition for the 17th World Congress on Winter Maintenance, Resilience, and Decarbonization.

A tribute to transportation visionary Jonathan Spear will be held during the TC1.1 meeting in London
