Roadway winter maintenance support systems and information exchange

This report presents a state of practice for the use of road weather information systems in relation to winter maintenance. An overview is provided on: the types of sensors that are used by road weather stations, collection and management of data, the file formats that are used for data exchange, information sharing with the general public, and the use of mobile road weather stations. The report examines the outcome of road weather information to support system of decision-making for winter maintenance. It defines recommendations in relation to the needs for the development of standardization.
