Semi-Rigid Pavements

The first chapter deals with terminology. Chapter II explains why one may be led to choose a semi-rigid pavement from all the various types available, and chapter III describes the various possible designs of these pavements. Chapter IV then discusses the methods used in designing semi-rigid pavements, giving examples of the pavement structures used in various countries. This is followed by a description of the constituents of the materials treated with hydraulic binders, the methods used in choosing their mixes and the corresponding criteria, and examples of mixes. The next chapter deals with ways of limiting the harmful consequences of shrinkage cracks and delaying their emergence on the pavement surface. The report then discusses specific aspects of the preparation and placement of the materials treated with hydraulic binders, followed by a special case of the use of this technique in which existing pavements are retreated with cement. The next chapter deals with the methods of investigation, maintenance, and rehabilitation of semi-rigid pavements. The report concludes with an assessment of their long-term performance.
