Economic Effects of Covid-19 on the Road Sector: a Puzzling Picture

We all are aware of the unprecedented effects caused by COVID-19 on the economic systems, since we directly experienced most of them. A pandemic, as is typical for this type of event, affects everybody, although at different levels, but the road industry has been put in a special position in this situation. We will try to describe the different facets of what happened to the industry and which are the scenarios for describing its development in the short and the medium term. PIARC has organised five webinars on these topics, spread out throughout the whole 18-month time span, covering the first wave with the full lockdowns and the first reactions, the relaxation occurred in Summer 2020, the new wave and the partial restriction measures of the last part of 2020 and the first half of 2021.
