PIARC (World Road Association), founded in 1909 and comprising 125 member governments from all over the world, is the global forum for exchange of knowledge and experience on roads, road transport policies and practices. With consultative status to the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations, the Association is contributing to a stable and sustainable global development of the road and transport sector.

PIARC’s Logo: The Whole Story

During its October 2019 Council session held in Abu Dhabi, the World Road Association adopted a new visual identity and single acronym across all languages: «PIARC». For this occasion, we asked Mr. Jean-François Corté, the Association’s Secretary General from 2002 to 2016, to recount the history of the Association’s logos since inception. We can be sure that «PIARC», founded under this name 110 years ago and dubbed the «World Road Association» in 1995, has a bright future ahead of it!
