  • Definition : Smooth and compact sheet of ice, generally clear, formed on the road surface by the freezing of liquid water or, more rarely, from supercooled water vapour. Notes: 1. ''Glaze ice'' is the meteorological term, ''black ice'' is the common term. 2. In road weather forecasts, the terms ''icy patches'', ''icy stretches'' and ''widespread ice'' are used to qualify increasing extents of glaze ice.
