Definition : Adhesive material containing bitumen and/or lake asphalt and/or tar. Note: the term is not scientifically precise, in that all of the materials covered by it contain nonhydrocarbon components. However, it has been proposed to allow the term ''bituminous binder'' to apply exclusively to nonpyrolysis materials (i.e. bitumen and lake asphalt) [CEN].
