Ottawa gets ready to host the Fifth Meeting of PIARC Technical Committee C.2

Ottawa, Canada, April 19-22, 2018

The fifth meeting of PIARC Technical Committee C.2 (Design and Operation of Safer Road Infrastructure) will be held from April 19 to 22, 2018 in Ottawa, Canada. Following an invitation from the Transportation Association of Canada (TAC/ATC), members of the committee will continue their work to update the PIARC Road Safety Manual. The meeting will take place at the same time as TAC's spring meeting and will provide members of both organizations with an excellent opportunity to meet and discuss common security issues.

On April 15, 2016, the United Nations General Assembly and its member states adopted resolution A / 70 / L.44 on "Improving Global Road Safety". Co-sponsored by 55 national governments, the resolution reaffirms the adoption and implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals, including in the area of road safety, as outlined in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The Technical Committee C.2, since its first meeting after the resolution, has taken over this resolution.

Technical Committee C.2 focuses on issues related to vulnerable road users, driver inattention and fatigue, and how human factors should be taken into account in the design and operation of roads.
