PIARC gathers international experts in South Africa in a seminar on "Road Tunnels in Low and Medium Income Countries"

The World Road Association (PIARC)'s Technical Committee D.5 "Road Tunnel Operations" organizes an International Seminar on "Road Tunnels in Low and Medium Income Countries" Cape Town (South Africa), from 18 - 20 October 2017.

During the conference, international experts will deliver presentations that will cover issues related to current challenges for tunnel operations: Best international design standards/technology, safety standards for tunnel operations, incident detention mechanisms, among other topics of particular importance for low and medium income countries.

The event will be an excellent opportunity to exchange knowledge and experiences for international, national, regional and municipal authorities as well as professionals, technicians, consultants, researchers, teachers, university students and professionals involved on road tunnels operations.

In conjunction with this workshop, PIARC's Technical Committee D.5 will hold its fourth meeting, where PIARC experts will be able to progress their reports.

PIARC's Technical Committee on Road Tunnel Operations is recognised as a reference technical body. It brings together almost 140 people worldwide and is very active on the subject of the operation and safety of road tunnels. In recent years, it has published 8 technical reports and developed an on-line reference manual.
