The Snow and Ice Databook, Edition 2006 published by PIARC is again a precious tool support knowledge transfer between international experts as it includes the whole scope of topics related to today's winter maintenance. New themes have also been added on economic and environmental issues, public-private partnerships, training, road user needs and emerging technologies.

The exchange of knowledge and learning amongst the many countries affected by wintry road conditions will help us all achieve optimal results with reduced costs and impacts on the environment. This is the focus of this publication - a compendium of winter road maintenance practices in numerous countries.
