Pavement damage has become increasingly frequent on expressways in Japan, primarily due to the growing impacts of climate change. In summer, ambient temperatures can exceed 40 °C, causing asphalt pavements to suffer from rutting and blistering. Transport is the activity that contributes most to France’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Various studies highlight that local journeys of less than 80 km are responsible for 70% of emissions, 80% of which occur in urban areas, and more specifically in the outskirts of metropolitan areas. This situation is the result of various factors: widespread urbanisation encouraged by car use, delays in the development of the rail network and low-density urban planning in the suburbs.
