PIARC gathers international experts on Road Safety in Morocco

More than 100 professionals and technicians from all over the world had the opportunity to exchange best practices and recommendations on different topics in the field of road safety

A PIARC International Workshop on Policies and Programs for Road Safety Management ("Current Practice and Development Prospective")took place in Marrakech, Morocco, on Thursday 6th April 2017.

The event, jointly organized by the World Road Association (PIARC) and the Moroccan authorities, brought together 110 participants, among whom were stakeholders at local and national level as well as international experts from PIARC's Committee. The participants could follow and discuss several presentations given by members of PIARC's Technical Committee C.1 "National road safety policies and programs" and by local experts from Morocco, on different topics in the field of road safety.

PIARC's twelve technical reports on Road Safety which had been produced during the 2012-2015 cycle were presented, as well as the Road Safety Manual of PIARC. For the current cycle 2016-2019, six new technical reports on Road Safety in progress were announced.

In conjunction with this workshop, PIARC's Technical Committee C.1 on National Road Safety Policies and Programs held its third meeting in Marrakech, Morocco, from 5 to 8 April 2017. Hosted by the Moroccan Ministry of Equipment, Transport and Logistics (DR, CNPAC, DTRSR) and the Moroccan National Road Associations (AMPCR - AMR),Committee members devoted a total of four days to progress and development of PIARC's Road Safety Manual and report on National road safety policies. This is why TC C.1 Chair, Roberto Arditi, concluded: "I hope that our Road Safety Manual and reports and the exchange of ideas between PIARC international and Moroccan experts will be a concrete contribution to Morocco's actions to save lives."

Lastly, a technical visit to the National Road 9, connecting the cities of Marrakech and Ouarzazate was organized by the host country as a conclusion to this road safety event.
